SAKSHI is a womenswear design degree student in her final year at LASALLE College of the Arts. Having previously graduated with a BA (Hons) Business & Commerce degree, her approach to design thinking has always been consumer focused, creating innovative works where creative design and the consumer’s needs and wants come together.

The central thesis of COSMOPOLITAN 01 is the idea of creating a hybrid between the sari, an iconic Indian heritage garment, and contemporary fashion. This will in turn help create space for heritage pieces to evolve new languages.

The collection is also a tribute to the functionality and wearability of clothing by giving new identities to heritage garments through amalgamating drapery and the flow of fabric with tailoring and structure.

The birth of my project COSMOPOLITAN 01 came about when I noticed a void in my personal wearing choices when it came to the cumbersome ways of donning traditional cultural clothing. Through further exploration, a hybrid between the sari, an iconic Indian heritage garment, and contemporary fashion was created which in turn created space for heritage pieces to evolve with new languages.
